How to Create a Fund

Riverside Soccer Fund

Chimney Rock Fund

Centennial Park Fund

Midwest Theater Fund

Wildcat Hills Fund

Organizations and individuals can set up a Fund that can accept “designated” donations. Read “How to create your own fund” for more information. OTCF currently has twenty-five funds that it manages. Here is a brief description of the current funds. Designated donations may be made to most of these funds, however some were set up by individuals and are not designed to accept donations from the
general public.

RIVERSIDE SOCCER FUND
Originally, this started as a fund raiser in honor of Dr. Allan C. Landers. He asked that a soccer fund be set up to encourage the development of soccer. This is now a “donor advised” fund and the advisors are members of the Riverside Soccer Association. They are in the process of raising a substantial amount of money to help build a soccer complex just North of Scottsbluff. The City of Scottsbluff has donated the land and quite a bit of money to begin construction. The Association says there are now over 1000 kids involved in soccer throughout the county. By using OTCF, donations to this worthy cause are tax deductible. If you are interested in donating to this great project, simply make your tax-deductible gift out to “OTCF-Riverside Soccer Fund”. This Fund can accept cash, securities, or property. If you have questions, call OTCF or e-mail at info@otcf.org.

BRONSON SCHOLARSHIP FUND
This fund was set up in honor of Dorothy Bronson. See “Scholarships” for more detailed information on how to apply for a scholarship.

CHIMNEY ROCK FUND
Originally, this fund was set up to raise funds for the Chimney Rock Visitors Center. The balance of funds will be used for additional Chimney Rock projects that will enhance this site.

LIGHTS ON BROADWAY
Several years ago, money was raised for Christmas lights on Broadway in Scottsbluff. The balance of this fund is actually the lights that were purchased and they are carried as an asset on the
balance sheet.

FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES
This was originally an “operating” fund for the FCA. Since then, most of the funds have been transferred to the main FCA headquarters in Lincoln. This is now a “donor advised” fund and local donations to FCA flow through it. The local advisor is Dr. Judd Martin. For more information, contact info@otcf.org or Dr. Martin.

DILL FUND
This fund was set up in memory of Alan Dill. For more information, see “Scholarships.

HEARTLAND EXPRESS FUND
This fund was set up to accept donations or grants for the promotion of the Heartland Express. This is a “donor advised” fund and the advisors are the Heartland Express Committee. The funds are used for the expenses incurred for the continuing promotion of the Heartland Express. Donations are accepted from the general public and the public sector for this project. These donations can be in the form of bequests, grants, cash, property and securities. If you are interested in this project, make your check out to “OTCF-Heartland Express.”

CENTENNIAL PARK FUND
The Kosman Family originally set this fund up to accept donations and grants for Centennial Park on 5th Avenue and 20th Street. Once the park was finished, OTCF donated the park to the City of Scottsbluff. The remaining funds were used for a statue that is now displayed in the park. This beautiful park replaced an eyesore vacant lot with no cost to the taxpayer.

CENTENNIAL PARK MAINTENANCE FUND
This fund was created with funds from the Centennial Park Fund. This is an “endowment operating” fund. The income from this fund will assist the City with maintenance and enhancements to the Centennial Park. This public-private project is exciting because it shows what can be done when a city and a private group work together. Hopefully, this fund will grow and eventually take care of most of the maintenance for the park.

HIGH PLAINS SCIENCE ADVENTURES                                      This fund was established as an "operating fund" for the receipt and disbursement of monies associated with a children's summer science adventure camp.

JAMES FAMILY TRUST
This is an “endowment” fund within OTCF for the benefit of the Scottsbluff Cosmopolitan Club and the income is to be used for their Diabetic Youth Camp. Expenditures are requested by the Cosmopolitan Club and approved by the OTCF Executive Committee.

LEMONS SCHOLARSHIP FUND
This fund was a bequest from the Lemons Estate. For further information, see “Scholarships.

LOVERCHECK SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Mr. Les Lovercheck and his wife set this scholarship fund up for the benefit of Gering High School graduates. This is an “endowment” fund where the earnings are used for scholarships. See “Scholarships” for further information.

MARTIN FAMILY CHARITABLE FUND                                              This fund was established by the Martin Family as a donor directed, pass through fund.  The family uses it as a means to teach their children about charitable giving.

MIDWEST THEATER  www.nebraskarts.com
This fund represents the donation of the Midwest Theater to the Oregon Trail Community Foundation. The fund balance is the original value of the building less depreciation. A sister organization, The Friends of the Midwest Theater, was formed to actually operate the theater. They are in the process of raising funds for a total renovation. The Midwest Theater is on the Federal Historic Building Register.

FRIENDS OF THE MIDWEST THEATER FUND
Although “Friends of the Midwest Theater” is a 501C-3 and can accept donations directly, some grants and donations come through OTCF. It is much easier for donations of securities and property to flow through OTCF since we are set up to handle those types of donations. Also, some grants made for renovation need to be made to the owner of the building. Renovating this beautiful building and bringing it back to its original grandeur will greatly enhance the Downtown Scottsbluff area.

MAE ROBINSON FUND
Mae Robinson set this fund up for grants for projects in Goshen County, Wyoming. Occasionally, the Mae Robinson Charitable Trust makes additional grants to this fund.

DOWNTOWN SCOTTSBLUFF ASSOCIATION FUND
This is an “operating advisory” fund advised by the Downtown Scottsbluff Association. The purpose of the fund is the enhancement of Downtown Scottsbluff. Donations mainly come from downtown merchants.

MUEHLBERGER SCHOLARSHIP FUND                                      This fund was established by the Waldemar Muehlberger Estate for students who are pursuing undergraduate study in education or health care-related fields.  See "Scholarships" for more details.

PANHANDLE SHRINE FUND
This fund was begun with a bequest from a Shriner and the income is to be used for Shrine projects.

PLATTE RIVER BASIN FUND                                                     This fund is a pass-thru for money used to buy land containing wetland habitats along the North Platte River for preservation.

SEACREST FUND
This fund was set up by the former owners of the Star-Herald. This is an endowment fund and the income is used by the OTCF Grant Committee to make grants for community betterment in Scottsbluff and Gering.

SCOTTSBLUFF PUBLIC LIBRARY FUND                                   This fund is a "special project" fund.  It was established to receive the charitable donations made to the Scottsbluff Public Library for the remodel and addition to their current building.

VERNON ALLEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Vernon Allen set this fund up for general scholarships. Eventually, as the fund grows, the income will be used for scholarships in the area. See “Scholarships” for additional information.

WILDCAT HILLS FUND
Originally set up to get the Wildcat Hills Nature Center built, the fund is now available for projects in the Wildcat Hills.

WILDCAT HILLS PALEONTOLOGY FUND                                   This fund was established to receive grants and donations for excavating and exhibiting fossils from a site discovered in the Wildcat Hills south of Gering. http://classrooms.esu13.org/fossilfreeway
